Review the list of products that are subject to CPSIA testing
If you are a small batch manufacturer, there are fewer restrictions on importing childrens products to the United States
If you're a small business making or importing children's products, here's a quick guide to what you need to do to meet U.S. safety standards and maybe get some testing breaks. Note- this status does not exempt you from other applicable requirements. The difference is that the Small Batch Manufacturers method is easier to demonstate compliance. Here are some things you need to check to see if you qualify:
Your total sales from all consumer products last year must be $1,395,340 or less. And, you made no more than 7,500 units of any specific product last year.
If you meet those requirements, you must sign up as a small batch manufacturer. Your registration status expires at the end of each calendar year so you’ll need to renew annually.
Group A: No shortcuts here. Products like painted toys, cribs, pacifiers, and others need third-party lab testing. Group B: You might have options like in-house testing or other methods for things like total lead content, toy safety, and more. But if you can't do these alternatives, third-party testing is required.
